Backup software? Anything else that does cleaning or optimizing disks?
Apart from that: you should do a "save as" in-between work. Not only to create incremental backups (which is always a good idea, no matter how good software operates) but also to optimize the file. When doing "save as", a new file is written and useless data is therefore erased. You will notice a reduction of filesize after "save as".
