Hi,
Ok, I've probably spent way more time and brain cells trying to figure this out than it deserves. Publishing to Facebook is not something that I intend to do regularly, but it would be nice if it would work. Part of my concern is setting up other publish services and running into similar problems.
I’m having different problems with the Facebook Publish service - both the default LR version and the Jeffrey Friedl plugin.
1) With the default version, after initializing the Publish service, the only Facebook album available is “Cover Photos” and it is grayed out. There is nothing else in the dropdown list (i.e. timeline photos, profile pictures). I do not have any other albums on my personal page. I tried deauthorizing and authorizing again.
I also manage a company page under my name/personal page, and nothing is available. No folders and there are several.
When I try to publish, I get the error that:
Can’t upload to the Facebook album “Cover Photos” Please make sure that the Adobe Photoshop Lightroom app has permission to upload photos with the privacy level of this album. (In Facebook look under Account settings/Apps/Adobe Lightroom/Posts on my Behalf)
My privacy level for the app in Facebook is set to Public. I tried setting to "Friends Only" and that does not work either.
2) With Jeffrey’s plugin, all of my company albums are available, but nothing is available for my personal FB page – cover photos, timeline, profile pictures.
Again, my privacy level is set to Public for Jeffrey’s app in Facebook.
As Jeffrey writes in the FAQ:
Why is “Wall Photos” not listed among my albums in the plugin?
For some reason that I have not been able to figure out, Facebook allows some people to upload to their “Wall Photos” album, and not others. Check your privacy settings as per the previous FAQ about missing albums, but otherwise, I have no idea why “Wall Photos” is listed for some but not others. FWIW, it's not listed for me.
In this case, I can upload to an album, but as mentioned only albums listed with my company page. I cannot upload anything to my personal timeline, or a cover photo album. Those options do not exist.
I’m inclined to believe that the problem lies mostly within Facebook and the way it communicates with apps. However, maybe I have some setting wrong. I sometimes feel that LR is just trying to do and include "too much."
All in all, I’ve spent way more time on this than it’s worth, since I don’t see myself publishing to Facebook often. It’d probably be easier and faster to set up a Facebook export setting and export to a folder on my desktop, then upload the photos.
But, it’d be cool if it could seamlessly be done through LR. 99% of the time, I would probably want to publish to my personal or company timeline.
Thanks
Andrew
