When playing from the source monitor the video is played at its native resolution and frame rate, When the video is played from the timeline, it is the sequence settings that are used for the video output. If you BM card or monitor can't cope with the video format it is being sent the display will not be correct. So it might be happy with your sequence settings but not with the native video. Changing the settings in the Blackmagic control panel might help.
