Help! Photos destroyed on import!!

Hi,

This is the second time I've had this issue with Lightroom 5.  This is particularly upsetting because it lost all the photos from a 3 day event!

Here's how it happens:

1. I insert my card in the card reader and put it in the computer (card write protected)

2. Lightroom 5 opens automatically and goes to import screen

3. Lightroom starts loading previews for the files.  Lightroom detects the correct number of images.

4. Click import

5. I receive this error: http://i.imgur.com/hxrt5jR.png

What is devasting here is that all the photos are now gone from the card!  I put the card back in the camera to see if it was the reader, but nope, camera also cant see the files.  There is one new file on the card though.  It's called "USBC `1 ."

The file is apparently 0 bytes, but windows explorer says that card has 7.6GB of used space.  The USBC `1 . file is the only file on the card except for the 500b NIKON001.DSC.

The USBC `1 . file cannot be copied or deleted.  If I attempt to do so, windows gives an error : "The file name you specified is not valid or is too long".  The only way I've managed to get rid of the file off the card is to format the card.  I haven't formated this time though because I really want to see if the photos can be salvaged.  I tried a recovery program however it only found previously deleted photos... not photos from this issue.

When I received the error in Lightroom, I used the "save as" option, which allowed me to save a text file.  The text file contains a list of the files.

I use a Nikon D3200, all shot in raw.

Does anyone know how I can get the photos back?  There were some absolutely amazing pictures on the card and I'm gutted to think that they are all gone!

Thank you,

M
